Study for work in the childcare and education sector and gain real work experience in caring for children.

This course provides an understanding of both the care and development of the child and their family in a variety of settings.

English and maths are also integral as these skills are essential for your employability.

You could progress to a Level 3 qualification in the care of children and young people or a related subject. Alternatively, you can progress into employment in a range of care settings.

This qualification provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enter the workforce, working under supervision within early years settings, in a variety of roles such as:

  • nursery assistant
  • classroom assistant
  • pre-school assistant

What I'll learn

The course is full time with 2 work-based placements in Early Years Settings. The course will be assessed through written assignment tasks and external exams.

  • Core and mandatory units include:
  • Patterns of development
  • Promoting Children’s development through play
  • The principles of Early Years Practice
  • Promoting Children’s Positive behaviour.

How I'll learn

Combine theoretical study with practical experience as you prepare for a career in childcare. This certificate helps you to gain knowledge through observational studies, practical work with children and a range of classroom-based activities which combine theoretical and practical training.

Combining days at college with placement days in care settings, you will be encouraged to link the theory of care for children and young people with your developing practice.

English and maths are also integral as these skills are essential for your employability.

How I'll be assessed

Assessment is through continual observation and examination.
