Study for work in the childcare and education sector and gain real work experience in caring for children.

This qualification is a licence to practice in the early years sector. Prepare to become an early years educator (EYE) so you can work with children from birth to 5 years old, and gain knowledge of children aged 5–7 years.

It aims to prepare you to work competently, safely and effectively with children and their families in a wide range of settings.

  • nanny
  • child minder

What I'll learn

The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with employers and professional bodies to confirm that the content is appropriate for those interested in working in the sector.

The content of the qualification meets the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the role of the early years educator.

All the content is mandatory, and will cover the following topics:

  • children’s development
  • keeping children safe
  • observation, assessment and planning
  • play and learning
  • reflective practice
  • supporting children’s early learning
  • The Early Years Foundation Stage
  • working with parents.

All learners taking this qualification will be required to engage with sector employers as part of their
course.

Entry Requirements

You will need five or more GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, a full, relevant Level 2 qualification, including Level 2 functional skills in maths and English, and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). You must have a clear CRB with no criminal convictions, reprimands or cautions.

We would also like you to have completed at least one week’s work experience in a nursery or school in the foundation/reception classes before the start of your course.
