Have a go on a potter's wheel and take home your own incredible creation!

Try something new after school with this pottery wheel throwing course for Teens (10–16 year olds) on Wednesday afternoon! You are probably aware of the process of creating a pot on the spinning wheel, and this is your chance to have a go with our experienced and approved ceramics tutor.

You will gain a new skill with others, and learn about the ancient craft of pottery. You will take home your very own kiln fired handmade pieces!

These workshops are also great if you are thinking of, or are taking, GCSE Art and want to expand your artistic skills and knowledge of materials.

No previous experience of working in clay is necessary. Basic materials will be provided.

There are many forms of pottery including hand building with slabs and coils, and these processes are covered in our ‘Ceramics for Young People’ which also runs on a Wednesday after school.

Your finished pieces will be ready to collect from college two to four weeks after the final workshop to allow for the work to be fired in our professional studio kilns.

If you enjoy the course, join our Junior or National Saturday Art Club!

What I'll learn

During the two classes, you will work on a potter's wheel and learn all the different techniques used to make a wheel thrown ceramic piece.

In a small class of up to five young people, you will learn how to wedge, knead, centre, and throw cylinder forms and more complicated shapes, with step-by-step instruction and demonstration.

Entry Requirements

No previous experience of working in clay is necessary.

It could get messy… so we suggest that you do not wear your best clothes! However, we do provide aprons.
