Pottery / Ceramics: Intermediate (Evenings)

These courses give you the chance to explore the potential of clay in your creative endeavours, develop your current skill levels and gain more knowledge of ceramic materials and processes.

This is a part-time course for students who are looking to maintain or improve their pottery skills in a relaxed environment.

You'll learn in a fun and supportive environment with experienced teachers and excellent facilities.

Please note: this course does not run during the half- term/ end-of-term breaks.

What I'll learn

Experienced students can be set more challenging projects or work on their own design ideas. All students are supported by the tutor throughout each project.

You design and make ceramic pieces through various techniques and processes such as: 

  • throwing
  • slip casting
  • hand-building
  • glaze formulation and application
  • decorating techniques
  • firing

 

How I'll learn

Teaching methods include:

  • Formal instruction
  • Discussion
  • Individual tuition
  • Practical demonstration
  • Practical experience

Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to develop your skills according to your own specific needs.

 

Entry Requirements

Ideally, you will have comlpeted a beginner's course in pottery/ceramics or have attended our mixed ability workshops. However, in this class, you work at your own pace and level.

All students are supported by the tutor throughout each project.

The cost is inclusive of tuition, clay, glazes, and kiln space for up to two firings necessary to complete the pieces created. Specialist materials and tools will be given out by the tutor if necessary.

You will need to bring:

  • a sketchbook and something to write with
  • a towel
  • an apron/wear old clothes that you don't mind getting messy
  • enthusiasm for the subject and a willingness to learn!

You may wish to bring handcream and a dust mask. If you have sensitive skin, you may also wish to bring a pair of washing-up gloves.

You must wear flat shoes as this is a safety requirement. Working with clay can get very messy!
