You will develop new skills and explore different making and decorating techniques suitable for both beginners and more experienced potters alike.

This is a practical workshop-based course with group and individual demonstrations of a variety of techniques. You will work at an appropriate pace with your tutor's guidance.

This is a part-time evening course running on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 6 until 8pm.

Our career pathways show you a typical route through the various stages of learning, what you will learn along the way and the careers these programmes could lead onto.

What I'll learn

You will gain the knowledge to develop your ceramics/ pottery skills along with the confidence to work independently.

How I'll learn

You will explore the properties of clay and learn techniques such as:

  • Making (throwing, coiling, slabbing)
  • Decoration (slap trailing, glazing, on-glaze painting and slip-decorating)

During the course, you will produce your own pieces of work for firing and glazing.

How I'll be assessed

This is a learning for leisure course, with no formal assessments.

Entry Requirements

No experience or qualifications are necessary to attend - just enthusiasm. You are advised to wear old clothes or bring an overall because working with clay can get messy.
