This fun, one-day of mosaic making will give you the basic skills needed to complete a mosaic to take home.

You will be supported through demonstration and instruction by an experienced tutor.

You will learn about mosaic patterns and design, different adhesives and how to cut the tiles safely using wheel nippers. There will be plenty of discussion and demonstrations throughout the course. 

You will have access to many beautiful glass and ceramic tiles and lots of sparkly extras to make your design stand out!

Come and have a go, and you may very well be hooked!

Following this course you can enrol onto a 5- or 10-week mosaics course or one day workshops available throughout the year. 

Please note: There will be an additional cost for materials of approx £45.

What I'll learn

During the 10 weeks, we will aim to complete 2 pieces of mosaic work. They will be completed by week 9 allowing time in week 10 to do the grouting of your work. You will then be able to take your artwork home. 

Techniques covered will include the following:

  • brief introduction to mosaic
  • materials for mosaic
  • designing and planning mosaic
  • cutting skills / shapes
  • completing a mosaic
  • grouting techniques

  • practical experience

Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to develop your skills according to your own specific needs.


Entry Requirements

You don’t need to bring anything with you for the first session, but if you have some images/ideas you would like to use for your mosaic, please feel free to bring it and we can adapt it for your artwork.

Do not wear open-toed shoes. This is a safety requirement. 

Some experience of mosaic making would be beneficial but not essential; you work at your own pace and level.

All students are supported by the tutor throughout each project.

You are advised to bring a packed lunch. There will be a 30-minute break at approximately 1:30pm.
