This two-weeks Ceramics course provides young people (10–16 year olds) an exciting introduction to the world of pottery.

To get started, you will be given a demonstration of the pottery techniques to be used in the session by our approved and knowledgeable ceramics tutor. You will then be able to create your own unique piece using the technique you have been shown.

Experimentation is always encouraged and glorious failures will also be celebrated!

We will introduce you to handmade techniques such as pinch pots, slab work, coiling and surface decoration.

At the end of the course, you will have a great sense of achievement and will feel proud of what you have accomplished, hopefully making some new friends along the way. You will also get to take home your own kiln fired and glazed handmade pieces!

No previous experience of working in clay is necessary. Basic Materials will be provided.

The groups are friendly and informal with a maximum of 12 learners so that you can be provided with ample support and encouragement.

Join our Junior or National Saturday Club, or join our Wheel throwing class for young people!

What I'll learn

Working in clay is great for taking time out of your busy life! It might even allow you to forget about any worries as you concentrate on your masterpiece. These workshops are also great if you are thinking of, or are taking GCSE Art and want to expand your artistic skills and knowledge of materials.

Your finished glazed ceramic creations will be ready to collect from the College two to four weeks after the workshop to allow for the work to be fired in our professional studio kilns.
You might also be interested in our ‘Wheel Throwing for Young People’ after school workshops that also run on a Wednesday after school.

Entry Requirements

It could get messy… so we suggest that you do not wear your best clothes!
However, we do provide aprons.
