This course is suitable for all abilities and experience which enables you to explore the huge range of possibilities that clay provides.

You will be supported through demonstration and instruction by an experienced tutor.

Please be aware that this is a mixed-ability class and space in the Pottery is limited.

What I'll learn

Beginners will follow a programme of projects which introduce them to a range of making and decorating techniques. Experienced students can be set more challenging projects, or work on their own design ideas. All students are supported by the tutor throughout each project.

You will also learn:

  • How to use  a range of the following making methods; pinching, coiling, slabbing, press moulding, modelling/sculpting and wheel throwing.
  • How to use a range of the following decorative materials; glazes, underglaze colours, metal oxides, coloured slips, relief built and incised surfaces (including sgraffito).
  • How to develop a feasible ceramic design of own choice or at the tutor's suggestion.
  • Resolving any problems and be aware of areas for improvement.
  • How to apply Health and Safety guidelines in the ceramic studio.

How I'll be assessed

There is no formal assessment for this course.
