This course is suitable for all abilities and experience, so enabling you to explore the wide range of possibilities that clay provides.

During this term we will explore hand-building techniques (e.g. pinching and coiling) and complimentary surface decorative techniques.
You will be guided and supported through demonstrations and instructions by an experienced tutor.

Please be aware that this is a mixed ability class and space in the Pottery is limited - please contact Woodley Hill House on 01344 766640 before enrolling if you are intending to bring a support worker with you.

What I'll learn

  • Pinching techniques
  • Coiling methods.
  • How to shape / form of hand-built pots.
  • The use of texture as a decorative technique, including application of sprigs.
  • How to develop a ceramic design from scratch, from either an idea of your own, or one suggested by the tutor.
  • How to choose and apply a suitable glaze, using the dipping method.
  • How to apply Health and Safety guidelines in the ceramic studio.

Formal instruction.  Discussion.  Individual tuition.  Practical demonstration. Practical experience.


How I'll be assessed

There is no formal assessment for this course.
