Ceramics - Christmas Lanterns and Decorations

This fun one day workshop will enable you to create festive lanterns and tree decorations, which can take centre stage on Christmas day!

Learners will make pieces using slab building techniques followed by a range of decorative techniques such as applying texture, piercing and underglaze painting.  Throughout the day, you will be supported through demonstration and instruction by an experienced tutor.

What I'll learn

  • A brief overview of the ceramics process.
  • How to roll out clay and shape into a lantern.
  • Application of decorative techniques such as underglaze and texture.
  • Finishing off and refining pieces.
  • How to apply Health and Safety guidelines in the Ceramics studio.


How I'll learn

Formal instruction.  Individual tuition.  Practical demonstration.  Practical experience.


How I'll be assessed

There is no formal assessment for this course.


Entry Requirements

No previous experience required. Students are advised to bring a packed lunch.  There will be a 30 minute break at approximately 12.30pm.
