Start date

This course is ideal if you have successfully completed the Level 1 programme and want to expand your skills and knowledge.

With the Carpentry and Joinery Level 2 study programme you can extend the skills you acquired at Level 1 so you can progress towards becoming a joiner in the construction industry.

On this programme you will learn the attributes, values, skills and attitudes for working in the construction industry, with a specialist focus on carpentry and joinery (bench joinery). The course is designed to increase your employability and prepare you for progression into an apprenticeship. The course blends practical workshop skills and activities with underpinning knowledge that is delivered in the classroom.

Our construction students also get the opportunity to showcase their skills in regional and national competitions, taking on students and apprentices from around the country. What’s more, our students get to work on employer led projects which reflect the real life challenges construction companies face every day.

What I'll learn

You cover subjects such as handling and storing resources, work relationships, providing working platforms, preparation maintenance and use of woodworking power tools and basic wood jointing techniques.

For those students who are not exempt there is a requirement to complete Functional Skills qualifications alongside mainstream study.

How I'll learn

The course blends practical workshop skills and activities with lessons in the classroom. Candidates will develop and build on practical skills and knowledge through a range of units. Functional skills will also form part of the course.

You are assessed on your practical work and job knowledge and there is an active online learning platform site, so you can view further information and link to interactive activities outside of lessons.

How I'll be assessed

You will be assessed on your practical work and job knowledge.
