This course will appeal to those that have a keen interest in marketing and retail and how it operates. You will enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to your own and experience and want to find out more about the industry through personal investigation.

What I'll learn

The Business Level 3 Extended Diploma (Marketing) programme has core/mandatory units and optional units. The core units you cover are:

  • the business environment
  • business resources
  • introduction to marketing
  • business communication

In addition to these, you take 12 optional units from a range which includes:

  • creative product promotion
  • business accounting
  • internet marketing
  • human resource management
  • developing teamwork
  • international business environment
  • starting a small business
  • health and safety
  • event management
  • supporting business projects
  • recruitment and selection

This programme develops and enhances your professionalism in a business context. It develops personal skills alongside knowledge acquisition and its practical application.

 

How I'll learn

You will learn via team activities, visits to local businesses, entrepreneur competitions at university, visits to SAID Business School, research tasks, presentations, volunteering opportunities, discussions, debates and work placements are all part of the way you learn.

Students are taught using a range of methods including trough tutor-led sessions, real life case studies, class discussions and smaller, group discussions.

As part of our membership of the Gazelle group of colleges, we organise for guest speakers from the world of business to come in and work with our students, as well as take students on educational visits and to enterprise seminars.

Students will also be expected to undertake work experience placements in both year 1 and year 2.

 

How I'll be assessed

This Business Level 3 Extended Diploma (Marketing) programme is a practical work and business-related course. All units are assessed through written and oral assignments.

Assessment is through a portfolio of written assignments, practical role plays and business enterprise activities. All work is assessed internally and verified. There are no exams. You ‘learn by doing’, i.e. completing projects and assignments based on real businesses in the area.

 

Entry Requirements

You will need five or more GCSEs grades 9-4 (A*-C) including English and maths or an equivalent qualification in business at Level 2.
