Hatha Yoga is a practice of postures and sequences, breathing techniques, concentration, and relaxation.

Hatha Yoga is a practice of postures and sequences, breathing techniques, concentration, and relaxation. It allows you to develop strength and flexibility, self-awareness, and balance of body and mind. Each session comprises supine composition, warm-up, seated, kneeling, and prone posture work, and standing postures and sequences. Breathing practices and relaxation conclude the session.

Our career pathways show you a typical route through the various stages of learning, what you will learn along the way and the careers these programmes could lead onto.

What I'll learn

Through a step-by-step approach and growing self awareness you are encouraged to practice according to your ability, in a safe and enjoyable way.
The actual techniques presented session by session will depend upon developing needs and abilities. However each session will include:

  • Settling/composure - an important opportunity to be still at the beginning of each session. Arriving in the moment and shifting focus from the outside world to the body and mind.
  • Warm-up/limbering - it is most essential to warm-up and stretch out muscles before entering into yoga postures (asana).
  • Yoga postures - classic and contemporary Yoga postures and sequences with variations to suit individuals.
  • Breathing exercises to optimize breathing, balance focus and energy, and interiorize focus.
  • Relaxation - an opportunity to let body and mind absorb the effects of physical and breath work.
  • Concentration (the early stages of meditation) may occasionally be offered separately, but is an on-going aspect of all practices.

How I'll learn

Demonstration, guiding instructions, participation, gentle corrections.
