A relaxed and fun introduction to glazing pottery!

During the Introduction to textured glazes course you will learn how textured glazes differ from standard glazes and when they can be used to best effect. This is a practical course where you will be mixing, adapting and testing glazes in small groups whilst learning about the different types of textured glazes, e.g. crackle, volcanic.  

On completion of this course students can enrol onto alternative glaze making courses, or one of our popular Ceramics For All classes. 

What I'll learn

You will be learning more about the chemistry that causes textured glazes and how to harness the characteristics of the chemical to get the best from established recipes, adapting recipes, and devising your own. 

You will also study how to correct the most common glaze faults and safe working practises with glazes. 

 

How I'll learn

Teaching techniques will include short talks, Q&A, group discussion, demonstrations and group practicals. Students can access articles and other information through emails and other digital methods. 

There may be some additional reading / research required at home.

 

Entry Requirements

You will need an apron, a notebook and a pen.

You will also need access to the internet at your home (for any additiona study) and have a valid email address.
