We’ll look at the works of a variety of artists and illustrators to examine and practice their techniques. 

The course will introduce you to the exciting effects and techniques that can be achieved with these simple but very effective artists' materials.

Comprehensive demonstrations will also explore the possibilities and variety of marks, textures and effects that can be achieved. All abilities are welcome, enthusiastic beginners or more experienced artists who would like to learn new skills. 

The course will include the following themes for you to explore:

  • mark-making
  • drawing
  • washes
  • landscapes
  • portraits
  • sketch-book studies 

You’ll also have the opportunity to work on a composition that will be inspired by the techniques you have learnt.

Enrol onto our Drawing for Beginners course which will further develop your drawing skills.

What I'll learn

We’ll be exploring the works and techniques of a selection of artists that will inspire you! 

Demonstrations will inform you of effects that can be achieved when combining materials.

We’ll discuss themes including:

  • scale
  • tone
  • creating a mood
  • textures
  • composition

The opportunity to then experiment with the materials will build your confidence and ability to manipulate materials. 


How I'll learn

 Being introduced to a variety of techniques and then experimenting with your materials will build your confidence and your ability to further develop your skills. 

You will learn through:

  • practical demonstrations 
  • individual tuition and group discussion
  • developing your skills according to your specific needs


Entry Requirements

Please bring a packed lunch (refreshments are available on site for a small cost). 

Basic materials will be provided but you may wish to bring along the following: 

  • Brushes-selection of sizes 
  • Black Drawing Ink 
  • Drawing Pen- this can include Pens with various Nibs or marker pens. 
  • Cartridge paper 

Please wear old clothing or an apron.
