Expand your knowledge of sustainable processes and colour principles with this course about natural dyeing and colouring. This workshop is suitable for beginners.

On this course, you will gain the necessary skills to develop a range of techniques, defining your palette for your practice or project. This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Throughout this course, you will be supported by artist Katie Taylor, who will help you learn about natural dyeing techniques on wool fabric.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn the basics and will include an exploration of dye stuffs from a variety of available sources such as the kitchen or garden.

What I'll learn

In this workshop, you will learn about:

  • The basics of natural dyeing, using dye extracts.
  • The preparation of fabrics and use of mordants
  • Methods of modifying colours to achieve a whole range of samples.

We will also briefly touch on bundle dyeing and basic shibori techniques.


How I'll learn

You will be encouraged to develop a dye book to record your results, which will give you a reference to use and add to after the workshop. The techniques are all simple enough to be replicated at home for dyeing yarns and fabrics.


Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for beginners. You will need an apron, a notebook and a pen.
