Quilting has a rich tradition with designs and techniques handed down through generations. They often marked key moments, such as births and marriages, and are created by communities.

This course is ideal for complete beginners to sewing, but those with more experience will have the opportunity to further develop their creative and storytelling skills through the design and execution of a quilt.

What I'll learn

  • You will be introduced to the work of historical and modern quilt makers
  • You will develop your design, plan and stitch your unique quilt
  • You will learn how to use a sewing machine as well as hand stitching and applique techniques
  • You will select fabric and trim combinations to create colour moods and texture
  • You will recycle old clothing, furnishing fabric scraps, etc. to create your personalised quilt.


How I'll learn

This course will give you the skills and confidence to execute your quilt design.

You will learn and execute a wide variety of techniques, with the opportunity to experiment before executing your design.

You will gain an understanding of the design process, from research through to production, developing your design and technical skills.

The course will run term-time only.
