Activate Learning is based at City of Oxford College.
We will explore tone, texture and composition whilst familiarising ourselves with the tools of the trade; paper, pencils, charcoal and paint. We will look at traditional approaches to subject matter practicing perspective, colour mixing and measuring. Alongside this there will be sessions exploring experimental approaches to mark making and paint application
Leisure CourseQualifications explained
These classes will provide you with a toolkit of techniques that will help you approach a wide variety of subject matters, so you can get creative whenever you feel inspiration strike.
You will also be encouraged to establish a creative habit outside of classes using your sketchbook. As the classes progress you will begin to look at the work of other artists whilst exploring your own style and honing your personal approach to different subjects.
You will experiment with different media, including charcoal, graphite and acrylic paint. You will also practice tonal studies, as well as working in colour both in your sketchbooks and on paper.
You will approach landscapes using a limited palette to help with your colour mixing, alongside exploring texture using mixed media techniques.
This is a learning for leisure course. There are no formal assessments.
I’ve enjoyed working with different mediums and doing lots of things that I hadn’t done before. Not many schools can offer the facilities that they have here.”
This course is a mixed ability class. Basic materials (charcoal, acrylic paint, paper) are included but you may wish to build your own art kits as the course progresses. A sketchbook is recommended.
This course will run on five consecutive Thursday evenings from 6.30pm- 9pm. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron to avoid getting messy.
