Introduction to Watercolour

Print Page

This day will be spent familiarising yourself with the materials and simple exercises in the basic techniques of painting in watercolour.

Familiarise yourself with the materials and simple exercises in the basic techniques of painting in watercolour. Confidence building studies and enjoying yourself are more important than producing a finished painting, though some of your artwork might be worthy of a frame!

What I'll learn

  • The equipment and preparation that is needed to paint in watercolour.
  • How to mix almost any colour from just red, yellow and blue.
  • How to use your brush to create various marks.
  • How to paint fresh areas of colour.
  • How to paint wet into wet.
  • How to apply these techniques in making small studies of fruit, vegetables, flowers and a simple landscape.

How I'll learn

You will learn through a combination of the following methods:

  • Formal instruction
  • Individual tuition
  • Practical demonstration
  • Practical experience.

You will be guided and supported through demonstrations and instructions by an experienced tutor.
