Illustrating and Printing Your Own Zine (April)

Print Page

Share your creative talent and ideas with the world in the form of a 'zine'!

If you’ve never heard of a zine, don't worry, you’re in the right place. Zines (self-made magazines) are a great way to publish your own art, poems, writing, musings, and anything else you want to express—without needing anyone else’s permission to do so.

This course is your chance to design, illustrate and print your own zine.

Your zine will be illustrated by you using collage or hand-drawn techniques during the first two days and can then printed in two to three colours on days three, four and five.

It can be about any subject, from a small event to a big idea, or a self-penned story with words and images, or simply a set of images.

At the beginning of the course you will use a range of techniques to produce an original work which can then be photocopied and distributed.

Part Two of the course will be focused on hand printing a limited edition of your zine with screenprinting techniques.

This course is especially designed for young people between 12 and 16 years old.

We have courses for young people advertised throughout the year and during the holidays. Have a look!

What I'll learn

You will gain an understanding of zine making and illustration and screen printing for mass distribution.

You will learn how to create an illustrated zine / booklet and how to screen print an A3 edition in two or three colours.

You will be able to take your printed zines home, and may swap with other students on the course to start a zine collection.

How I'll learn

There is some teacher-led, formal instruction mixed with practical demonstration and group feedback. Each learner will be supported with their project.

Entry Requirements

No experience is necessary this is a fully guided course and you will be supported by our very experienced tutor throughout.

All materials will be provided.

If you want to plan your zine before you attend the course, please use just black and white, as colour can be added later.

Printmaking is messy and although aprons are provided it may be sensible to wear old clothes.

Please note: High heels and sandals are not allowed; please wear something sturdy that covers the whole foot.
