Join this course and learn techniques to transform old garments into unique customised clothing.

With a growing awareness of the impact that our consumption of fast fashion is having on the environment, the  fashion and textiles industry is facing a significant challenge: sustainability.

This course is ideal if you want to experiment with new techniques, enjoy sewing or painting and want to explore your creativity, whether you are an experienced sewer or completed beginner.

Don’t throw it away, turn it into something new you’ll love again!

At Reading College we offer more textiles courses; have a look at Simply sewing, Quilt making and Printmaking on textiles!

Please note: The course will run during term time only.

Scroll down for details on the entry requirements and how you'll learn.

What I'll learn

You will be introduced to several creative processes. These will include:

  • hand embroidery and machine stitching
  • applique
  • hand-painting
  • stencilling and other fabric manipulation.

These techniques will enable you to redesign and transform clothing and accessories.

You’ll research and plan your customisation, then apply these techniques to produce final decorative garments, ideal for gifting, too.

How I'll learn

The course will give you the skills and confidence to further develop your customising, whether you want to pursue a career in fashion or textiles, or continue as a hobby.

You will learn and execute a wide variety of techniques, with the opportunity to experiment by making textile samples.

The course will run term-time only.

Entry Requirements
