Art , Design & Media UAL Level 1 Diploma

Unlock your creative potential! This Art, Design, and Media Level 1 Diploma will give you the introductory skills and knowledge to get started in the art sector.

This course is the UAL Level 1 Award and Diploma in Art, Design and Media.

Whether you want to be a Graphic Designer, a Photographer, a Film producer, an Illustrator or a Fashion Designer, you have to start somewhere. This course is specifically designed to help you build the strong foundations you need to launch your educational pathway into the Creative Industries.

The course will cover basics in drawing, model making, photography, digital imaging, and graphic communications. Although aimed at beginners, it does require some prior knowledge in Art, Design, and Media.

The aim of the Level 1 course is to help you develop your skills and ideas so you can then progress to the Level 2 Diploma and beyond. From Level 2, you will start to specialise in one or more areas within the creative industries.

To join the course, you will need an enthusiastic attitude, a willingness to try something different and four GCSEs (including a creative subject) at Grade 2 (E–F) or above.

You will develop introductory art and design skills and, upon successful completion, will gain a formal qualification: the UAL Art, Design and Media Level 1 Award and Diploma.

You will learn 2D and 3D processes using a variety of art, design, and craft media, so you can make your design drawings come to life.

You will study a number of topics, including:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • print making
  • textiles
  • ceramics
  • wire
  • plaster

You will receive individual feedback and discussion about your work during each session. Assessment of your progress is ongoing and continuous as you proceed through the course and complete each of the units required.

You will be encouraged to complete set tasks and develop your own personal style as your confidence in your selected discipline develops.

You will build a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates that your skills meet the different unit’s outcomes and it will be assessed internally.

It will also be externally accessed and verified by the UAL Awarding Body’s external quality assurance team.

UAL Awarding Body believes in transformative education. They design and award creative qualifications that empower and inspire educators to help students reach their potential.

UAL Awarding Body is regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA Regulation and currently offers qualifications in Art and Design, Fashion Business and Retail, Creative Media Production and Technology, Music Performance and Production and Performing and Production Arts. The ideal next step is our UAL Level 2 Award and Diploma in Art and Design. After that, you could progress to a Level 3 qualification.

You need to have 4 GCSEs at Grade 2 or above including English and maths, with a keen interest & evidence in the subject (example of work or portfolio).

Visits are part of this course and carry an additional cost.
