Our career pathways show you a typical route through the various stages of learning, what you will learn along the way and the careers these programmes could lead onto.

What I'll learn

You will learn 2D and 3D processes using a variety of art, design and craft media, so you can make your design drawings come to life.

You will study a number of topics, including:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • print making
  • textiles
  • ceramics
  • wire
  • plaster

How I'll learn

This is a very hands-on course. You will develop your introductory art and design skills and, on successful completion, you will gain a qualification: the Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design and Media. Progression is available to the Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design.

Visits are part of this course and carry an additional cost.

How I'll be assessed

Your work will be assessed internally and externally accessed and verified through students’ portfolios of evidence against the unit outcomes and assessment criteria, and are subject to UAL Awarding Body’s external quality assurance.

You develop introductory art and design skills and, on successful completion, you gain a formal qualification: the Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design and Media.

Entry Requirements

You will need a basic level of literacy and numeracy to apply for this course.

You will also need a commitment to work towards improving your English and maths skills. Both Functional skills and GCSE re-sits are offered.

The ideal next step is our Level 2 Art and Design programme. After that you could progress to Level 3.
