This course is a broad art course which focuses initially on drawing before transitioning into painting.

This is a mixed-ability course that caters for students whose experiences range from very little to none.

Using a range of approaches you will learn new techniques that develop your skills each week.

By covering a range of different subject matters and exploring a range of different drawing- and painting-based mediums, you will master the basics of artistic practice.

What I'll learn

On this course you will learn:

  • plotting
  • shading and shading types
  • how to render 2D drawings into 3D objects
  • how to draw from life
  • how to draw from images
  • how to stage and draw/paint varied compositions
  • highlight and shadows
  • form and surface


How I'll learn

Techniques and the course syllabus with be taught via the following methods:

  • formal instruction
  • group discussion
  • visual demonstration
  • individual tuition


Entry Requirements

For the start of this course you will need the following:

  •  an A5, A4 or A3 sketch pad (individuals choice)
  • a set of graphite pencils
  • a rubber
  • a sharpener

Additional materials will be discussed as the course develops
