This course is suitable for anyone wanting to learn the basics of painting with acrylics and oils.

Projects set will be suitable for both new students and those wishing to expand their painting skills.  

You will be supported through demonstration and instruction by an experienced tutor.

When you've completed this course you may like to progress to Acrylics and Oils for Beginners and Improvers.

What I'll learn

  • Explore the materials and equipment used in acrylics and learn how to use them effectively.
  • Start to understand the materials and equipment use in oil painting and the basic techniques of working in oil.
  • Understand the names and properties of a basic colour palette.
  • Explore colour mixing.
  • Understand different brushes and brush techniques.
  • Explore blending techniques.
  • Understand basic picture composition.
  • Topics may include landscape, still life animals, figures and plants.

Entry Requirements

Painting can get messy, so wear old clothes you don't mind getting dirty, or bring an apron.
