Access to HE Diploma (Childcare Professions)

Print Page

The Access to Childcare course is aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in childcare but have little or no experience or relevant qualifications.

Access to Higher Education programmes are designed to prepare students aged 19+ for a Foundation Degree programme. This programme is designed for people who want to return to study after time out of education, building academic and personal confidence and developing the skills needed for real success on a degree-level course.

Upon successful completion you will be awarded a diploma that will gain you entry to degree level study at a choice of most UK universities.

Our career pathways show you a typical route through the various stages of learning, what you will learn along the way and the careers these programmes could lead onto.

What I'll learn

On the Access to HE (Childcare Professions) programme, you will study a range of topics, including:

  • Study skills for higher education
  • Practical childcare skills
  • Careers in childcare
  • Children’s development (from 0 to 12 years)
  • Safeguarding children
  • Working in partnership
  • Reflective practice.

How I'll learn

You will learn through a variety of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. Credits are gained for a variety of tasks such as quizzes, case studies, essays, reports, presentations and timed assessments.

How I'll be assessed

Assessment is via a combination of exams (approximately 30%) and coursework (approximately 70%).

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be over 19 and have been out of full-time education for a year. There are no formal entry requirements, but you need to attend an initial assessment (tests on numeracy, literacy and a written discussion on a given topic). This ensures the programme is at the most appropriate level for you, and it helps us to identify any support needs you may have so we can put study support into place.

How to Apply
