In just one year, you can qualify to enrol onto a public services degree-level course with our Access to HE Diploma.

Ideal for those wanting a career in policing or the criminal justice sector, this course provides the skills and knowledge needed for further related degree-level study.

How I'll learn

You will learn through various teaching methods such as lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, court visits, group discussions and debates, and case studies will be undertaken. Credits are gained for a variety of tasks such as quizzes, case studies, essays, reports, presentations and timed assignments. There will also be the opportunity to gain nationally recognised Level 2 qualifications in Adult Numeracy and Literacy. As well as developing subject knowledge, you will improve your communication, personal and study skills through a common core programme that also provides one-to-one tutorial support. 

There is a wide range of support available at the college for students including financial support also. You will be assigned a personal tutor who will agree performance targets with you and support you to achieve these targets. Your tutor is also the first port of call for any pastoral issues. Our committed team of staff and careers specialists will also guide and support you with your higher education choices and applications. Almost all of our Access students’ progress to higher education. You will benefit from socialising in an educational environment and working collaboratively on projects. All of this is excellent preparation for higher education.

 

How I'll be assessed

Assessment on Access to HE programmes is via a combination of exams and coursework.

Assessments are a mixture of essays, structured questions, projects, presentations and examinations.

 

Entry Requirements

If you’re aged 19 or over, live in England and are thinking about further education or training, you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000 a year.


What are Advanced Learner Loans?
The government introduced Advanced Learner Loans to help adult learners manage the costs of further education and training in England.
These loans cover tuition fees for a range of Level 3 to Level 6 courses including:

  • A-levels.
  • General and vocational qualifications.
  • Access to Higher Education diplomas.

Advanced Learner Loans are only available for study at a training provider or college in England.
Previously these loans were known as 24+ Advanced Leaner Loans, but due to the age at which you’re eligible changing, the name was changed. So, if you couldn’t get a loan previously because you were too young, now you might be able to.

As part of your application, you will be asked to provide us with your contact details, how your chosen programme fits with your future plans and if you require any extra support (for example, because of a disability, medical condition, learning or language support needs). 
Please include full details of your qualifications from your own country, as well as details of any English Language tests you have taken.
