Our part-time evening course is an intensive programme of study that offers adult learners high-quality teaching in a friendly and supportive environment.
An Access course is for mature students (19+) who have been out of full-time education for one or more years and would like to go on to higher education but do not have the formal qualifications needed.
Our part time Access to HE: Health Professions Level 3 Diploma is designed for students who want to progress to university. Our part-time evening course is an intensive programme of study that offers adult learners high quality teaching in a friendly and supportive environment.
This course offers the opportunity to study at Level 3 (equivalent to A Level), as well as the chance to re-take or achieve qualifications in either GCSE English or Maths.
The Access to HE: Health Professions Level 3 Diploma programme is one year in duration.
Upon successful completion you will be awarded a diploma that will gain you entry to degree-level study at most UK universities.
What I'll learn
This is an intensive course with modules including:
- professional healthcare practice
- human biology
- human physiology
There is also a toolkit/study skills module.
The course is designed for adult learners who have the relevant work experience but lack the academic qualifications to progress to university.
How I'll learn
The course is modular and is taught through a combination of lectures group work and independent learning activities.
The main aim of this course is to prepare students for study at university. Students will receive subject specific study skills preparation, as well as tuition in subjects that are relevant to their chosen degree course.
Once awarded the Access to HE Diploma, students will be able to start a university degree, provided they have met the entrance criteria for their chosen universities.
How I'll be assessed
Assessment on the Access to HE Business Professions programme is via a combination of exams (approximately 30%) and coursework (approximately 70%).
Assessments are a mixture of:
- structured questions
Applicants must be over 19 and have been out of full-time education for a year.
No specific qualifications are asked for, however a GCSE grade 4 (C) in English or maths would be beneficial.
You will have a numeracy and literacy assessment to check your suitability to study at Level 3.
If you are successful at your initial assessment, you will also be invited in for an interview where you will need to bring with you a portfolio of your work to date, demonstrate that you have a realistic career goal in mind and the motivation to achieve.
Some degrees require that you have some relevant paid or voluntary work experience and this will also be checked at interview. Applicants are strongly advised to check degree entry requirements with prospective universities before applying.
