Print Page

Prepare for an exciting career in nursing with our one year Access to HE Nursing programme.

Study our one year Access to Higher Education nursing programme and gain the skills, experience and confidence you need for a career where you can make a difference to the lives of hundreds of patients.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a diploma that will help you gain entry to degree level study at most UK universities.

Our career pathways show you a typical route through the various stages of learning, what you will learn along the way and the careers these programmes could lead onto.

What I'll learn

You will study psychology, professional healthcare practice (PHP) and human physiology, among other topics.

The main aim of this course is to prepare students for study at university. Students will receive subject specific study skills preparation, as well as tuition in subjects that are relevant to their chosen degree course.

Once awarded the Access to HE Diploma, students will be able to start a university degree, provided they have met the entrance criteria for their chosen universities.

How I'll learn

The course offers the opportunity to study a range of humanities subjects at Level 3 (equivalent to A-levels) as well as the chance to re-take or achieve qualifications in GCSE English or GCSE Maths. In addition to this all students are offered tuition in study skills and tutorial support in order to develop their skills.

How I'll be assessed

You are assessed through course work (assignment reports, projects and presentations) practicals, exams and work completed in class.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be over 19 and have been out of full-time education for a year.

To apply for a place on the Access to HE course, there are no requirements in terms of prior academic qualifications. However, applicants are required to sit an initial maths and English assessment to determine if their level of literacy and numeracy is sufficiently high to cope with a level 3 course.

The outcome of this might be that an applicant is advised to complete maths and/or English at GCSE before being considered for the Access course. On the other hand, if an applicant scores well on the initial test, it is possible to do maths and/or English alongside the Access diploma, but it should be noted here that this is a substantial workload.
