Teaching staff

We regularly recruit both qualified and unqualified teaching staff to deliver a high-quality learning experience. All teaching staff need a degree or equivalent qualification in their chosen subject. If you are unqualified, you must be willing to become qualified within two years.

Are you qualified?

You will need an appropriate teaching qualification at secondary or FE level. The main current qualifications are the B ED and Cert Ed. We also accept equivalent former qualifications and equivalent international qualifications.

Qualified teachers must update their skills and professional development record and maintain their membership of the IFL.

If you are unsure whether you meet the requirements for the qualified pay scale, please contact us for advice.

Unqualified but keen to teach?

We are committed to exploring lifelong learning opportunities for our staff. We do this in a number of ways. For example, we support unqualified teachers to achieve their Cert Ed or PGCE within two years of their appointment. We run Teacher Training programmes in Oxford and Reading.

Vocational trainers teach manual and practical skills, covering a wide range of subjects including construction, motor vehicle, engineering, hairdressing and hospitality. We recruit vocational trainers with contemporary knowledge and professional skills to teach on these “hands on” courses, giving our students the skills to be active learners, employees and citizens and build a career in their chosen industry. Contemporary vocational and industry experience inspires our students, and gives them an edge in our competitive world.

‘I teach at City of Oxford College. As part of my training, I have been able to explore and learn about different learning theories, curriculum design, their application to learning and more. I have found it informative, creative and motivating.’ (Jamil, Accounting teacher)
