In January 2018, the corporations of Bracknell & Wokingham College and Activate Learning announced their intention to merge in 2018, creating a new partnership that would transform the post-16 educational landscape in Berkshire.
The planned merged organisation would provide students, staff and businesses with new opportunities and choices, giving them access to high-quality growth and development opportunities made possible by being part of a larger group with national influence.
A public consultation was held between 15 March and 27 April to consider the views of all relevant stakeholders including students, staff, businesses, local education providers and the general public.
The overall response was supportive of the proposed merger. Employers and higher education partners who responded were 100% positive about the proposed merger and cited many benefits for learners and the college as well as their appetite to expand their work with the new, larger-scale organisation. Constructive comments were made about the practicalities of implementing the merger and the request to continue focusing on improving quality and delivering a curriculum that responds to local needs.
