Application guidelines

Thank you for your interest in working with Activate Learning. We want you to have the best possible chance of finding the right job within the Group and its members. The applicant guidance notes have been designed to help you create a good application so please take a few minutes to read through the information before filling out the application form.
 
Alternative formats - The application form and supporting papers are available in hard copy, if required. If you require assistance in completing your application form please contact Human Resources.
 
The application form - CVs are generally not acceptable in place of a completed application form. However, you may submit a CV in addition to your completed application form. Please note that we can only accept one attachment.
 
Personal details - Please state all your forenames/first names and surnames/family names. If you use a different name, then please enter it in the “preferred name” field.
 
Contact details - It is essential that you provide us with a valid email address, please ensure that you click "Add Details" when you enter your contact address so data is not lost.
 
Disclosures/Relationships with the Group - Please provide details of any connections you may have with employees or Corporation members of the Group. If the relationship is not specified in the drop down box, please select 'Other' and provide further information in the details box. Failure to disclose a relationship will normally result in disqualification, as will canvassing in connection with this appointment.
 
Relevant disclosures - Activate Learning aims to promote equality of opportunity for all with the right mix of talent, skills and potential. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from employment with us. This will depend on the nature, circumstances and background of your offences and the particular position for which you are applying.
 
Activate Learning meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) (Amendment) Order 1986. All applicants who are offered employment will be subject to an enhanced criminal record check from the Criminal Records Bureau before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of spent and unspent cautions, reprimands or final warnings, as well as convictions.
 
A criminal offence means if you have at any time received, or have pending, a caution, conviction, reprimand or warning (either spend or unspent).
 
Immigration control - You will be required to produce an official document confirming that you are entitled to live and work in the UK e.g. passport, full birth certificate and official document confirming your name and national insurance number; or a passport/travel document/letter from the Home Office.
 
Employment details and history - Please complete this section starting with your most recent job first. This section should include all of your previous posts including any relevant voluntary roles or work experience.
 
You must account for all the time since you left school, college, university or paid employment. It is advisable to explain any periods of time when you were not in paid employment or studying. You can add further entries by clicking on the 'Add Details' button.
Please note that, as you begin to complete this section, or add a new entry, certain fields will become mandatory.
 
If you do not know the exact dates of your previous employment, please use the first day of the relevant month, i.e. 01/06/2000.
 
If this is your current role, please select 'Currently Employed' from the 'Reasons for leaving' drop down list.
 
Education and qualifications- Ensure that you provide information on the educational and professional qualifications you have gained that are relevant to the role you are applying for. This will include qualifications as detailed in the person specification. The subject list is not exhaustive and you should therefore choose the “nearest” subject and then expand in the additional information section if required. The 'Subject' drop-down list details a range of subjects. If your qualification subject is listed in the 'Subject' drop-down list, please select the subject area and grade below. If your subject is not listed then please select the broad subject area of your qualification and provide further details in the 'Additional Qualification Information' box below.
 
To enter multiple subjects in the same qualification please hold down the 'Ctrl' key and select all the subjects you require you can select a maximum 4 subjects for one entry. You may also group qualifications together by grade. To group subjects by grade, select the grade and then hold the 'Ctrl' key and select each subject at this grade.
 
Please use the 'Add Details' button to add further qualifications or a different grade.
If you do not know the exact date of your qualification, please use the first day/month of the relevant year, i.e. 01/06/2000.
 
To inform us of any memberships or professional bodies not in the drop down list, please use the ‘Additional Qualification Information’ area.
 
Professional memberships- Please state any professional qualifications that are relevant for the position that you are applying for and any memberships of professional bodies.
 
Relevant professional development- Please list any professional activities or courses you currently attend or have attended in the last three years. Please use the ‘Add Details’ button to add further activities.
 
Please use the free text box to provide any further relevant information which you feel is relevant.
 
Notice Period Please detail your current notice period (if applicable) in this box. If you are not currently in employment, please state “Not Applicable” or “N/A” in this box.
 
Supporting information/ Personal statement -This section is for you to provide any additional information about yourself which you feel may be relevant to the post for which you are applying and has not already been mentioned.
 
This section has a maximum of 15 lines to complete each criteria.
 
References and dclaration/ Reference details - All appointments are subject to satisfactory references and pre employment checks.
 
Please provide the names of two people who are willing to provide a reference for you; the first would normally be your current or most recent employer. The other must be from someone who is able to comment on your suitability for the position. If you are currently out of paid employment, or have never been employed, you should name someone who knows you well and who is able to comment on your suitability for the position that you have applied for.
 
Please indicate the type of reference provided in each case and note that we cannot accept references from friends or family members.
Please provide an email address and phone number for each referee.
 
Data monitoring/Equality and diversity: Information provided in this section will be confidential to the HR department. It will be used only for the purpose of statistical monitoring and for compiling the personnel record of the successful candidate in support of the Group's equal opportunities policy.
 
The Group has achieved the “Two Ticks” (Positive about disabled people) symbol. The symbol shows that we are positive about employing disabled people; that we will interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and to consider them on their abilities.
 
Declaration- The application form requires for you to certify that you agree with the statement. Providing false or inaccurate information or omitting to provide information requested could result in your application being disqualified. If this only becomes apparent after an offer has been made, the offer may be withdrawn. However, if this becomes apparent after commencement of employment in post, this could result in dismissal.
 
Submitting your application form- Please note you will not be able to make any changes once the form has been submitted. You can save your application at any time before submitting it. Withdrawing your application- If you wish to withdraw your application, please contact a member of the Human Resources Team.
